In the universe of international security systems, the Beehiveâ„¢ 3.0 (Beehive) is a truly disruptive technology. It will change the way airports, seaports, embassies and other "secure" environments using passive measures to define a secure environment for years to come.

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and occurrences in unique public domains will challenge governments and private concerns to the initiate devices in various means of providing safety and security, effective solutions have been elusive. RSS's Beehive provides a solution that is an authentic game-changer.

The Beehiveâ„¢ 3.0 is a proprietary hardware and software modular device that integrates existing commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology eg. hyperspectral camera, chemical/biological, video, audio, RFID, etc. sensors to identify, assess and act on potential threats in near real time.  It is a real-time multidimensional at a distance solution meant to provide an automated, continuous and invisible detection of potential risks within a secure environment.  The Beehive devices form a seamless/self learning perimeter network which heightens man-powered security services (like TSA) by automating the scanning, detection, and tracking process thereby covering broader areas of concern much more efficiently.

It makes it possible for security personnel to avoid the use of politically-charged, usually controversial programs like the "profiling" of potential terrorists because it is an essentially neutral, data-based information-gathering system.

The Beehive harnesses science and technology to enhance national security, international security, and the personal safety of individuals. In today's highly dangerous and complex environment of international terrorism and the need for heightened security, both governments and private institutions are charged with the necessity and responsibility to protect citizens and facilities necessary for travel, commerce, and manufacturing and civilized society as we know it. The Beehive system provides the most effective and cost-efficient solution available in the security market.

How it Works

chemicalIn an environment requiring differing degrees of security, there are solutions that exist which can aggressively address and provide answers to potential and existing threats.  These solutions take the form of digital video surveillance, chemical/biological detection, accoustic detection, etc. The solutions by themselves are state-of-the-art and are basically only 2 dimensional when solving the problem.  These solutions also can be extremely labor intensive if they cannot be automated which introduces alot of potential errors in a highly charged situation.

There is also a critical need to understand the entire environment to be secured from air sampling to real time facial recognition.  In order to achieve the desired goal of complete security, one must be able to integrate many sensors into a single environment; provide recommendations for threat mitigation in real time.  Today this is being solved through manual, labor intensive means. Rarely is this ever completely effective.  As a result, the Beehive was invented, designed and developed to address and solve these security short comings.

The Beehive system detects, analyzes, and recognizes rapid changes in ambient activity through highly sensitive sensors which are providing near real time combined recommendations to mitigate a potentially harmful or dangerous situation.  This is achieved by a series of proprietary processes that can provide and achieve 3 dimensional syngergy from within existing technology.

Each Beehive system can function alone, or work in a peer-to-peer and/or networked environment to deliver complete perimeter coverage. Additionally, the Beehive can adapt to its environment and continually update its learning capabilities using advanced Artificial Intelligence techniques.

For example, chemicals and other foreign substances are likely to be harmful to public safety. Using an extensive library of detection algorithms, the Beehive can detect potentially harmful or dangerous substances in the vicinity, quickly identify the material based on comparison of spectral data within the detection library, and provide instantaneous, autonomous notification of the triggered event.

Because all materials and substances have a specific chemical makeup and therefore a unique spectral signature, virtually anything can be detected and tracked with the Beehive. The comparison digital database can be quickly modified and updated to search for the selected chemicals or substances. Substances to be identified and detected are first carefully analyzed in a controlled environment, separated into spectral components, and logged in the detection library. When the Beehiveâ„¢ scans an area, software analyzes the scene's spectral signatures and queries the database for known substances. When a match is found, the software automatically notifies security personnel.

The complete compound digital signature of an individual can also be compiled and logged immediately, enabling a host of additional tracking capabilities, such as facial recognition.  When the Beehiveâ„¢ detects an event involving an individual with explosive residue on his or her clothing, and the software logs the complete digital signature, they can be immediately detained.

earthThe Beehive can also track the individual in occluded intervals and/or distance future at any region where the Beehive has been deployed.  When the individual enters Beehive deployment location, the compound digital signature acquires the individual, quickly compares and matches it with the signature on file, and if a particular signature has been flagged as critical, can deploy tracking for the event again. Through customization, the system provides licensed authorities with further multi-dimenstional detection tracking for events involving additional persons of interest who are observed in contact with the individual.

The entire system is autonomous, from the constant monitoring of an area with the Beehive Module to the detection of substances and digital signatures and database comparison, matching, and alerting features.  Each Beehive Module is interconnected with every other module, designed with the unique core system architecture, as well as an extensive, multi-layered backend, which supports the Signature Database along with all other off-site storage hardware and software.

Multiple, redundant data streams from diverse sources (including copper, fiber, GPS, Satellite, MPLS wireless and mobile carriers) are aggregated in each Beehive unit to provide this interconnection while also ensuring the maximum available bandwidth to each unit.  The secure, managed off-site server cluster supports spectral analysis processing and signature comparison for the spectral data the Beehive Module provides. Licensed users can access to a particular data stream can monitor the given situation/event remotely via the secure connection as well--from anywhere in the world.

Each user intending to monitor the area around a Beehive Unit(s) will be required to obtain a license to access and use the module. This license will provide authentication for the user, and a unique account, which isolates the user and secures all data collected. The licensing system allows for custom configuration of event notifications, materials to track, specific times for tracking, and a host of options.  In this manner, each licensed user has access to the same detection and tracking capabilities on the same Beehive, but in a completely separate, customizable, and secure fashion.

The Beehive system is capable of the autonomous detection of any range of known substances, and subsequent alerting, tracking, and monitoring for events pertaining to such substances. Tracking of individuals and facial recognition is also enabled, using the spectral analysis process to catalogue the complete compound digital signature.

networkThe Beehive Modules themselves use redundant, diverse communications techniques to ensure maximum availability and quality of bandwidth for multiple tasks. Secure, authorized, and licensed access ensures that proprietary information is available only to those it is intended for, and allows for multiple simultaneous monitoring channels functioning from the same Beehiveâ„¢ Module.

More information on RoamZone Security Systemsâ„¢ Beehiveâ„¢ Module will become available at regular intervals through 2013.
